Eric Larsen’s mission to Save the Poles requires an exceptionally tough and weatherproof tent. We build the Polar Tunnel to house a team of four intrepid winter adventurers, with plenty of space and a stout profile for high winds.

Designed with input from Eric Larsen--founder of the Save the Poles campaign--the four-season Polar Tunnel tent is tough enough to house a team of four intrepid winter adventurers, with plenty of space and a stout profile for high winds. The Polar Tunnel is made of 70D nylon, with a tough 70D nylon floor and 40D HT nylon fly helping it withstand nasty snowstorms and other weather obstacles. At the same time, the tent's dye-free white canopy transmits light efficiently to provide a brighter, more pleasant environment inside the tent--a must for tent-bound explorers who don't have the luxury to hang out outside while resting up for the next ascent. And to ensure plenty of storage for gear in addition to people, the Polar Tunnel includes two large vestibules that provide a combined 68 square feet of space.

Other features include a four-pole design, integrated snow flaps, reflective door trim and guy outs, and several vents in the body and vestibules for cross-ventilation. Built to comply with Sierra's Green Effect program--an eco-conscious commitment on the part of Sierra to reduce costs and waste and grow programs to promote sustainable outdoor recreation--the Polar Tunnel will hold up to virtually any winter outing.

About Save the Poles
In November 2009, Polar explorer Eric Larsen embarked on his Save the Poles expedition, a first-ever journey to the South Pole, North Pole, and summit of Mt. Everest in a continuous 365-day period. His purpose? To travel to the "front lines" of global warming to document the changes occurring in these last great frozen places. To date, only 15 people (no Americans) in history have been to all three "poles," and no one has completed the feat in a single year. To accomplish these goals, Larsen is relying on such equipment sponsors as Sierra Designs (outerwear and tents), Terramar (base layer), GoalO (remote power), Atlas (snowshoes), and Optic Nerve (eyewear).
